Hey there, momma.

I’m Courtney. And I’m here to help you find better   work/life balance. I am….

...a proud wife and mom of 2 boys
…an organizational culture and behavior change executive
…an Industrial & Systems Engineer
…a children’s book author
…a lake enthusiast, avid traveler, and a sparkling wine lover.

I am also a believer in building a movement to help busy moms reclaim their control and free time so that they can confidently remain in the workforce without losing their sanity, or themselves!

But if you’re curious and want more than just that, here’s my short-ish story…

Grew up in the small town of Tazewell, VA.

Grew up in the small town of Tazewell, VA.

I spent my time as part nerd (Valedictorian + International Science Fair competitor + Most Likely to Succeed) and part athlete (varsity tennis, volleyball, basketball, track, and cross country)
Life goal was ALWAYS to be a mom and provide the best life I could for my future kids…probably inspired by my own committed parents
Avid Hokie (if you don’t know, Google it!)
Studied Industrial & Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech
Met my husband in Facilities Layout Planning (see, I’m trained at organizing!). He grew up in the DC-metro, but spent his summers in Colombia in his mom’s family’s small village of Tuluá
Started a 16-year career as a management consultant specializing in behavior change

Married my best friend.

Married my best friend.

Relocated from Alexandria VA < Chapel Hill NC < Charlotte NC
Decided to design and custom build a house and bought 2 acres of land in Mountain Island Lake (a lake-front neighborhood in the far corner of Charlotte)

Celebrated our first pregnancy.

Traveled weekly for work while pregnant, but made the most of it by exploring 16 new US cities, touring the Grand Canyon, attending a solo concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater, and whale watching in Vancouver

Learned we were bringing home a little boy. Happy birthday, Witten!
Cycled through 3 nannies and a wobbly start to working-mom life
Celebrated our oldest, Witten’s, first birthday and learned we were welcoming another little boy (needed to know the gender for this one!)
Started an intensive 6-month physical therapy journey with my oldest to teach him how to sit, crawl, stand, and walk

Buckled under the weight of life.

Buckled under the weight of life.

Lost my last nanny a week before I was due with Baby Boy #2. Boss resigned. Entered the final three months of our custom build
Welcomed Wyant to our family
Spent maternity leave with a newborn and 18 month old at a construction site; barely surviving
Started a new role at work and immediately ramped up to 80-hour weeks with a 3 and 21 month old
Packed up and moved into our new home
Welcomed our first Au Pair from Italy

Daydreamed about sleep and stability.

Daydreamed about sleep and stability.

Felt helplessly overwhelmed under the weight of a demanding work schedule, having littles that were entirely dependent on me, and a postpartum body I resented
Got back to my industrial engineering roots and built a system to support better work / life balance
Started my journey from self-sabotage to self-love by prioritizing myself and hiring partners that helped me feel at my best (nutritionist, Invisalign, esthetician, trainer, etc.)

Welcomed our second Au Pair from Australia and learned how to scale up my support system.

Mastered creating my personal “life management system” so that I could spend more time doing what I loved (and less of what I didn’t!)
Continued to feverishly travel because it fuels my heart even when it drains my free-time tank. Went to Casablanca, Doha, Bangalore, Istanbul and Bangkok on my own. In addition to many US cities, my boys have gotten to explore St. John, Punta Cana, London, Copenhagen, Malmo, and northern Germany

Took a new role to lead organizational strategy and serve as Chief of Staff to the CEO.

Pandemic hit and I was infinitely grateful I took the time to invest in building a strong system because work hours exploded again (regularly 65-80 / week)
Welcomed a golden retriever puppy, Wynne (holy craziness!)
Transitioned from my professional services firm of 16 years to lead culture at a Fortune 50
Launched Workings Moms Movement, which has been humbling but an incredibly gratifying experience to build something I am so passionate about
Next up…pouring my heart into helping you.

Come join me! Xoxo

So to you, momma,

I see you.

The most important thing you need to know is that you are doing a good job. The fact that you are reading this tells me that you give everything you have every day for your family, friends, and employer. You are selfless and resilient.
I understand that the journey of a working mother can often be filled with guilt and self-doubt. You may wonder if you're giving enough to your children or if you're excelling in your career. Please remember that it's okay to have these doubts; they are a testament to your love and concern for your family's well-being. But also remember that you are doing your best, and your best is always enough.

In the moments when you feel overwhelmed and stretched thin, don't hesitate to ask for help.

Whether it's from your partner, family, friends, or even a trusted colleague, there is strength in seeking support. You don't have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders alone. And I am here for you…to lift you up and share ways you can create more structure in your life to alleviate some of your stresses.
Take time for self-care. I know it can be challenging to find moments for yourself, but it's crucial for your physical and mental well-being. Even if it's just a few minutes each day, prioritize self-care activities that rejuvenate your spirit, whether it's reading a book, going for a walk, or simply savoring a cup of tea in solitude.

Know that you are setting a powerful example for your children. By showing them the importance of hard work, determination, and pursuing your dreams, you are instilling valuable life lessons. They will grow up understanding the value of both family and personal fulfillment.
Remember that it's okay to make choices that align with your priorities, even if they differ from societal expectations. Whether you choose to work full-time, part-time, or stay at home, your decision is valid and should be respected. Embrace your choices and stand tall in your own path.
Lastly, be kind to yourself. We are often our harshest critics, and it's essential to practice self-compassion. You are not perfect, and that's perfectly okay. Embrace your imperfections as part of what makes you uniquely and loveably you.

In conclusion, working momma, you are a hero in every sense of the word. Your love, your hard work, and your dedication are changing the world one day at a time. I hope you find strength and encouragement in these words and know that you are not alone on this journey.
We stand together, united in the beautiful, complex tapestry of motherhood and career.
